FilterWaterGuide tests every whole-house system at the point of entry against the contaminant-reduction claims printed on its NSF/ANSI certification (Standard 42 for aesthetic/chlorine, 53 for health-related contaminants like lead and VOCs, 44 for water softeners, and 58 for reverse osmosis), and we verify those certifications directly in the NSF, WQA, and IAPMO product listings rather than taking marketing claims at face value. For each unit we measure real service flow rate (GPM) and pressure drop on a 1-inch main, log filter or resin life against rated capacity, and submit before/after samples to an EPA-method laboratory for lead, hardness (grains per gallon), chlorine, and where relevant PFAS. Softeners are additionally graded on regeneration efficiency (salt used per 1,000 grains of hardness removed) and measured hardness reduction. Every recommendation is reviewed by a WQA-Certified Water Specialist before publication.
