The Honest Truth Most Sites Won't Tell You
Look, I'll be straight with you.
Most "About Us" pages on water filtration sites are pure filler. Recycled marketing fluff written by people who've never wrenched a 1-inch NPT fitting onto a Big Blue housing at 11 PM on a Sunday. Who've never watched their wife's hair go limp and brittle from 22 GPG hard water. Who've never tasted sulfur-laced well water at 6 AM, before coffee, when the world is still quiet and the smell hits you like a slap.
Ours is different. And that's the whole point of this page.
We're a small, slightly obsessive team of whole house water filter nerds who've spent the last 12 years installing, testing, breaking, and replacing residential water systems, in our own homes and in the homes of friends, family, and paying clients. This page explains exactly who we are, how we test, and why you should (or shouldn't) trust a single word we publish.

The Problem That Started This Site
In 2014, I bought a 1920s farmhouse in central Pennsylvania. Original hardwood. Wraparound porch. The kind of place you fall in love with before you ever turn on the faucet.
Then I turned on the faucet.
The private well tested like a chemistry experiment gone wrong:
- 19 grains per gallon hardness — the kind that quietly murders dishwashers and turns shower glass into a frosted nightmare
- 2.1 ppm iron — orange stains on toilets, tubs, towels, sinks, the dog, basically everything porous in a six-block radius
- A faint sulfur smell that punched you in the nose the second the kitchen tap hissed open
I spent three weeks drowning in forum threads, manufacturer spec sheets, and contradictory blog reviews that all somehow recommended completely different systems with absolute certainty.
I bought the wrong system the first time. I bought the wrong system the second time. I finally got it right on attempt number three.
That third system cost me $1,840 in equipment plus another $600 in plumbing fittings I shouldn't have needed, if I'd understood flow rates and pre-filtration the first time around. Total tuition for my self-taught water filtration degree? Just over $4,200 and roughly 200 hours of my life.
And that's when the lightbulb went on: nobody should have to go through this. Not for something as basic as clean, soft water flowing through the pipes of their own home.
So I started writing it all down. The mistakes, the math, the comparison tables I wished I'd had. That notebook became blog posts. Those blog posts became this site.
Watch: What Actually Goes Into a Whole House System
Before you read another word, watch this. It's the single best 10-minute primer we've seen on what these systems actually do, and why the wrong one is worse than no system at all.

Meet the Team (The Real People Behind the Reviews)
Marcus Hadley — Lead Water Quality Tester
12 years in the trenches. WQA Certified Water Specialist (Level 3). Owns and operates a test bench in his Pennsylvania basement that looks suspiciously like a small municipal water lab.
Marcus writes about anything involving sediment, iron, sulfur, and softeners. If a product has been through his hands, the review you're reading is brutally honest.
Dana Reyes — Plumbing & Installation Editor
Master plumber, 19 years licensed. Dana has installed more whole house systems than most contractors will see in a lifetime, including the absolute nightmares (crawlspaces, 1890s cast iron, you name it).
She vets every installation guide, flow-rate claim, and "can a homeowner do this themselves?" answer on this site.
Dr. Priya Anand — Water Chemistry Consultant
PhD in Environmental Engineering, UT Austin. Spent 8 years consulting for municipal water utilities before joining us as our science-checker-in-chief.
If a sentence on this site mentions PFAS, chloramines, TDS, or ion exchange, Priya has read it, and probably rewritten it.
How We Actually Test (Spoiler: We Don't Just Read Amazon Reviews)
Here's where most "review" sites fall apart. They never touch the product. We do. Every single one.
- Buy at retail. No PR units. No "loaners." We pay full price like you do.
- Baseline water test. Pre-installation lab analysis of every contaminant the system claims to address.
- Full installation. Documented, photographed, timed. We note every fitting, every wrench-curse, every unexpected adapter.
- 30-day shakedown. Daily flow rate, pressure drop, taste, smell, and post-filter chemistry checks.
- 6-month endurance run. The phase where weak systems quietly fail. Cartridge life, regen cycles, salt usage, the works.
- Real-talk verdict. Written only after we'd actually live with it. No exceptions.
Jackery Explorer 500 v2 Portable Power Station
- 519Wh LFP battery
- 500W AC pure sine wave output
- Charges to 80% in 1 hour with 100W solar
What We Will Never Do
We've turned down more sponsorship offers than we can count. Here's our ironclad list:
- We will never accept payment to rank a product higher.
- We will never publish a review of a product we haven't personally tested.
- We will never hide a product's flaws because we earn a commission on it.
- We will never use AI to fabricate a "customer experience" we didn't have.
- We will never recommend a system that's wrong for your water just because it's popular.
See Our Testing Bench in Action
This is the kind of nerdy, hands-on testing that separates a real review from a regurgitated spec sheet. Worth a watch if you want to understand what "thorough" actually looks like.
Who This Site Is (and Isn't) For
PERFECT FOR YOU IF...
- You own (or are buying) a home with city or well water
- You want straight answers, not sales pitches
- You're tired of orange stains, scaly faucets, or that funky smell
- You'd rather spend 2 hours reading than $2,000 on the wrong system
NOT THE RIGHT FIT IF...
- You want generic "top 10" listicles ranked by affiliate payout
- You need commercial or industrial-scale filtration
- You're looking for under-sink or pitcher filter reviews only
- You want someone to tell you the cheapest option is fine. It usually isn't.
The Bottom Line
We built this site because we needed it ourselves a decade ago, and it didn't exist.
We're not the biggest water filtration site on the internet. We're not trying to be. We're trying to be the most honest, most thoroughly tested, and most genuinely useful resource a homeowner can find when they're staring at a $1,500 decision and don't know who to trust.
If we've earned even a sliver of your trust by the time you finish reading this page, we'd be honored to help you pick your system.
And if we haven't? Click away. Read three other sites. Come back if they don't measure up.
We'll be right here, elbow-deep in the next test.
Questions? Corrections? A horror story about your own water? We read every email. Drop us a line through our Contact page, Marcus answers personally within 48 hours.
